Powwow! Ohcîwin the Origins exhibit recognized internationally

It was recently announced that The Costume Society of America has chosen the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery as a recipient of the 2022 Richard Martin Exhibition Award for Small Museums for the exhibit Powwow! Ohcîwin the Origins.

Richard Martin Exhibition Awards recognize outstanding costume exhibitions presented by both small and large institutions. Award-winning exhibitions demonstrate excellence and innovation in the interpretation and presentation of costume, providing a transforming experience to both students of costume and the public.

We could not be more excited to receive this award!

Working with Patrick Mitsuing and Marrisa Mitsuing over the past 4 years has been a true pleasure. When Patrick and Marrisa proposed this exhibition we were blown away with their idea. It was the kind of idea that makes you sit up and wonder at the possibilities. It took us a while to wrap our heads around it, but the “Dream Big Team” (that is our unofficial nickname for Patrick and Marrisa) were so clear on their vision we eagerly climbed on board for this adventure.

This project was truly collaborative – our team worked side by side with Patrick and Marrisa and we built a team that had a foundation of trust and respect. We trusted and respected their process and they trusted and respected ours. Together we made magic.

A huge thanks to the…
