At today’s camp we’ll be trying out a variety of mediums and projects geared towards the budding artists in our camps! We’ll play around with colour theory, paint some acrylic still life art pieces, do a mini ceramics style project with air-dry clay, and more.

Children will create their own artwork. Supervised outdoor time is also included, as well as time to explore our galleries and Remarkable Red Deer. Please provide your own lunch & snacks, and bring appropriate outdoor clothing.

Hidden Treasures

What sorts of art can we make with unassuming objects and unexpected findings? Our camp this month will involve lots of fun projects that encourage out-of-the-box thinking about materials! Campers will get to create jewelry with found trinkets, create beautiful textured prints and find funky animals hidden in inkblots, among other fun, investigative projects!

Mosaics and Memories

Drawing from themes in the current exhibition, George Littlechild’s Here I Am, Can You See Me?, we will focus this month’s art projects on the importance of family and connections in our artwork. Visually, we will be creating composite collage portraits in Littlechild’s style, and exploring different methods of making mosaics with a range of materials.

Crazy Shapes and a World of Colour

We’re going to take it back to the basics of art for this camp, and get experimental and playful with shape and colour! Campers will get to create a funky abstract, multi-coloured sculptures, paint some funky pastel rainbow gradients, and explore more projects that examine the wide range of creations that can be made using these two art fundamentals.

Looking to get some time together on Valentines Day? Drop your littles off with us for a fun night at the museum and go out for the evening! We’ll be playing games and watching short films in Remarkable Red Deer, munching on pizza, then doing an art project in our studio.

Snowscapes

Join us for the first MAG day camp of 2024! To kick off this year of Day Camps, we’ll take a look at the current exhibit, Louie Palu’s Distant Early Warning. The artistic focus will be on portraiture and Inuit art. We’ll do some soap carving and try our hand at some snowy landscapes.

Arctic Abstracts

Look at our Inuit Cape Dorset collection of prints and explore printmaking. Study animals affected by climate change and create your own soft sculpture of a polar bear out of recycled materials and cotton balls.

In remembrance of wartime rationing, we will embrace recycled materials to create free from abstract sculptures. Create a watercolour painting in the style of Molly Lamb Bobak, a Canadian war time artist, as inspiration.
