Artist in Residence:

Dawn Detarando

Join local artist Dawn Detarando in Heritage Square and watch her work. She will be on site demonstrating her craft of clay sculptures. She will have a few works on display in the Gaetz Library building.

About the Artist

Dawn Detarando (pictured) is originally from Massachusetts, USA. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 1996 and her Master of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio in 1998.

While at Ohio State University she met, Brian McArthur, a fellow graduate student and her future husband. Upon graduation both moved to his family’s home in Red Deer County and started their successful business, Voyager Art & Tile. They have become well-known for their public artworks and unique ceramic tiles.

In 2004, Dawn became a Canadian citizen and in 2008 she received the Lieutenant Governor’s Alberta Emerging Artist Award. She has several pieces now owned by and in the permanent collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
