History in the PM

First Nations

Join us for an evening of Red Deer’s Remarkable history. Each month we will briefly touch on a theme from Red Deer’s past from pre-contact until today. These presentations are enriched with artifacts from our Collection.

Before the arrival of European settlers (in Treaty 6 and Treaty 7), the Indigenous peoples had very different lifestyle and social structures. This presentation explores First Nations Leaders, past and present, including Chief Maskepetoon. We will touch on the leaders who lead their people through signing the Treaties and the Indigenous artists who provide cultural leadership today. This presentation includes Indigenous artifacts (or replicas) from our study collection and beautiful examples of modern Indigenous art from our art collection.

Pre-register or drop in. For ages 16+.
