History in the PM

Fur Trade

The fur trade shaped Canada, but what was the fur trade actually like?

Delving beyond the basics of beaver pelts and voyageurs, this presentation will explore some of the dynamics of the fur trade, including the role of Canada’s Indigenous peoples, the rivalries between major companies, and some of the early fur traders who ventured into the area that is now Alberta and expanded European knowledge of the area.

Pre-register or drop in. For ages 16+.

This program is offered as part of History in the PM, where once a month we meet in our Stewart Discovery Studio to learn about Red Deer’s Remarkable history. These presentations are enriched with artifacts from the MAG’s Collection.
