A Week @ the Museum Summer Camps 2023

Symbolically Speaking

Symbols in art have meaning. Learn the meanings of some cultural symbols in art and art history and add or invent your own symbols as part of your unique identity.

Throughout the week camp participants will explore our exhibits, including Body Language: Reawakening Cultural Tattooing of the Northwest and gain inspiration for creating their own artwork.

Looking for Single Days? We offer single day camp options for $50/day. Register online for single days here or for double-days here (art project is 2-day requirement). Call us at 587-797-4040 to inquire.

Payment is due at the time of registration. *If you are in need of making payment arrangements to help your child(ren) attend any of our camps, please contact us prior to registering. This week-long camp runs August 8-11, 2023 with single days available.

Art Project List for week/single days:

TUESDAY 8th – Crayon Stickers!

Campers will learn how to melt crayons and recycle to make groovy designs then flattening them to make them into personal stickers!

WEDNESDAY 9th – Red Deer Runway!

Working with paper and creativity campers will use inspiration of historical garments within the museum and archives to inspire their own groups’ paper outfit creations! Using materials such as tissue paper, yarn, construction paper, streamers and other miscellaneous materials!

THURSDAY 10th -Mirror me!

Campers will try exercises of blind contour drawings in pastels and watercolours to layer portraits of themselves and experiment with line and colour, while creating silly and exciting abstract portraits paintings. Guest Artist Holly Mayoh with her mystery project!

FRIDAY 11th – Sunprinting bookmarks!

Campers will design their own creations and use cyanotype printing to make them appear!

Plus, Collage Hybrid Cards! Campers will use collage to create hybrid animal human creatures to make cards to be used for any silly occasion!
